SUMMARY
The Mount Washington School (#221) is a public K-8 Baltimore City school located in the historic neighborhood of Mt. Washington. The Mount Washington School is currently certified as a Maryland Green School. Now in our fourth/fifth year as being a certified green school, we continue to increase our commitment to being green. “Green" has become a way of life at The Mount Washington School and we are very proud of our accomplishments throughout the years. Most importantly, our school has built and maintained an outstanding Outdoor Classroom. With help from the community, the Outdoor Classroom is one of the best assets for the school. The students and teachers use the Outdoor Classroom as much as possible during the school year, especially for our annual events such as the Walk-A-Thon, Earth Day Celebration and Fall Festival.
The Mount Washington School incorporates environmental instruction in all of the grades in subjects of math, reading, science, art, and Music. Students are recycling, maintaining the school grounds and conserving water. In addition, students at Mount Washington have many practices in place to improve the environment. Our four main areas of focus are water conservation, solid waste reduction, structures for environmental learning and responsible transportation. Furthermore, the teachers and principal are committed to promoting green initiatives in their classroom lessons. Mount Washington ensures that students celebrate their accomplishments by hosting Earth Day Celebration, Harvest Festival Fall Festivals, Walk to School Day, the Green Student Leadership Council and Energy Captains Club. Our students and teachers are eager to continue the work of making our school greener.
