GREEN FESTIVAL
The
entire school community including teachers, students, and parents were invited
to the Green Fest Event held Saturday February 2nd 2013 at the
school to celebrate being a Green school and to serve as a resource for other
schools interested in learning more about becoming Green . The event featured
green vendors, green hands on learning activities for students, fresh, healthy
locally grown food ,workshops on: Energy conservation ,Native trees & shrubs
for the landscape, Interrupting run-off, and “What it takes to become a green school
(lead by MAEOE’s Allyson Bloom), and several dozen partner organizations were
there to offer their expertise, including Blue Water Baltimore, The Baltimore
Energy Challenge, RetroFit Baltimore, The Baltimore Office of Sustainability
and many others.
“There’s nothing better than to see kids with their hands in the dirt learning about science first-hand and that’s really why we’re doing this,” said parent Lee Dix who has helped The Mount Washington School with its green school certification. “We’re doing it for the kids so they have a true interest and love for learning about science and the environment.”
