Outside Clean-up and Maintenance
Our environment needs us as we need it.
With five outdoor areas, there is plenty of space to clean up in a socially distant way. School grounds are highlighted here in primary colors to distinguish separate spaces.
Safety First:
- No more than 10 volunteers at a time in one area.
- Use of PPE - Gardening Clothes, Face mask, Gloves
- Use own personal tools - rakes, shovels, trimmers, power tools.
- Personal space - 6 ft social distancing.
Social distance practice makes perfect in our strong community.

MWS Upper Building
Outdoor Classroom Blacktop (Area 7)
Brown: Mulching path to go around amphitheater and cover aqueduct.
Green: Trimming, Weeding & Planting. Multiple areas of this section that have different planting needs.
Weeds wacked or pulled from ground are: Grape Vine, Russian Thistle, wild morning glory, deadnettle, dock, ground ivy, English Ivy, Kudzu, mountain mint, birddock, cocklebur, pokeweed, crabgrass. Purple: Painting & Stenciling. Paint blacktop to reinforce spaces for outdoor games and socially distance games, and “clean green” stencils (including storm drain stenciling). |
Rain Garden
This area holds the traditional playground and the rain garden.
Brown: Mulching path already established as Tiger Loop. Plants on tiger loop can be transplanted from here to the Outdoor classroom. Green: Trimming, Weeding & Planting. The largest area (rain garden) is broken out below describing plants for transplanting and identification. Other areas on the side are to trim bushes and trees. Weeds are to be wacked or weeded. Transplanting may occur here as well. Note: Lawn Mowing is done by city as the green committee has specialized our approach to permaculture education. Plus we don’t have a lawn mower as mine broke. Rain Garden: Many different plants identified here, some for transplant. Identifiers are able to help move this all forward as we get to the fall. Brown- Mulching Tiger Loop. Green- Major Trimming and removal of grape vine weeds is the top issue. The plants in the Rain garden are great for harvesting seeds, transplanting, and major trim backs. The roots are established, and we have ability to fix. |
